How to Style Traditional Dresses for festivals

Hi Everyone,

Though inspired by western outfits, we Indian girls always love to dress up in our traditional costumes, attires and accessories enjoying festivities and celebrating colors !!

In India, we never have a dearth of reasons to celebrate. The diversity ensures we are always in festive spirit. But nowhere is autumn as lively for sure, as across its length and breath people celebrate Rakhi, Independance Day, Navratri and Durga puja.

This season, Max Fashions is ready with its Ethnic collection and we are all set to play all the cards. The range is solar, incandescent and spicy. Colors of the macaw, green vines, uninhibited parrot green, orange of Tibetan monks, and the entire spectrum of reds to purples to salmon pinks, bushy browns and yawning blues will spice up this festive season. Both, the girls and boys can as daring as they can with colors. For the upcoming Rakhi festival, look out for outfits in burnt cienna.

One thing most of us have trouble with is ....
putting together a trendy look with traditional casual wear.
We may put on the salwaar-kameez and kurti quite often, so why not spice this look up as well ?

So, while you are at Max Store, Don't forget to look out for loads of -

Studded accessories,
Cute earring,
Colorful bangles,
Festive Bags,
Printed Clutches,
Ballerinas with gold details

and jazz up your look instantly !!

Fashion Trend - Shirt Dress Autumn 2014

Hi Everyone,

All of us are suckers for timeless dresses and the shirt dress is one of our all-time favorites. Not only are they warm-weather friendly , but also, works for every style type, making it a true closet keeper. Here, I style one of my fav  shirt dress from Max Fashions.

When it comes to how to style a shirt dress I generally use the guide that the shorter the dress, the lower the heel. Especially during the day time. A knee length shirt dress worn with heels would look quite sophisticated. The same mini dress worn with flats, however, can look much more appropriate. Hence the choice of low heels, with perfect pink shade to compliment the dress !!

Some styles of shirt dresses can be quite shapeless and swamp your figure.  However, this one comes with a belt to cinch in your waist. This will easily and effectively accentuate the appearance of a waistline.

This dress is perfect for a pear-shaped, since it comes with an A-line. So, the bottom half of the shirt dress will not cling to your hips and thighs, hence much more flattering to your lower half.

Find a lot more variety of Shirt Dresses in a Max Store near you.

The sixth edition of BMW India Bridal Fashion Week 2014 in association with AZVA at DLF Emporio, New Delhi on day 1 saw a magical collection from the czar of haute couture, Tarun Tahiliani in celebration of the global indian.

The arena was packed and viewers were welcomed by a spectacular sight of a fully lit up Rashtrapati Bhavan, through a projector. Tarun Tahiliani’s unconventional and edgy approach of showcasing bridal wear in the color black stunned many! Apart from black & gold the collection formed a pastoral romance of pinks, beiges, burnt orange and noir. Extensive layering, long trains and ruffles were seen. With the use of modern fabric like sheer silks, reshams and tullé; the ensemble became lighter, giving ease of movement. From textured salwars, dhoti pants, Patiala salwars  and non-conformist pair of trousers to gilded amour choli, vest coats and anarkali kurtas. Every ensemble looked distinctive. The traditional mangtika was modified into a Mohawk that added a dash of power to the whole look.

The concept sari has always been a strong point for the couturier. The hybrid dhoti-sari and numerous other draping techniques made viewers take note of the detailing. Tarun’s bride was dressed in an orange lehenga choli with intricate and intense gold work.

Hi Everyone,

THE SIXTH EDITION OF BMW INDIA BRIDAL FASHION WEEK IN ASSOCIATION WITH AZVA 2014 DAY 2

Celebrated history with Raghavendra Rathore's 'Re-incarnating Relics'

New Delhi: 8th August, 2014: The sixth edition of BMW India Bridal Fashion Week 2014  in association with AZVA at DLF Emporio, New Delhi on day 2 saw an enthralling collection by the suave designer Raghavendra Rathore.

'Re-incarnating Relics' was a celebration of the spiritual manifestation of a melange of traditions, ushering in a new era of clothes embodying history, a rebellion of colors splashing modernism on to the austere canvas of the ramp

The stage was step up like a palace from Rajasthan with royalty flags enchanting royal bliss. Raghavendra Rathore presented a very entertaining show not just through his spectacular designs but also through many little treats for the viewers. One such treat was the music of the show. Contrary to the stage set up the music of the show was all that jazz and pop. Instead of beautiful female models opening the show we saw gorgeous men take charge of the stage and begin the show! There was also a moment of cuteness overload when little boys dressed up in Raghavendra Rathore creation walked the ramp with the female models. The show was closed by two celebrity show stoppers-dazzling Aditi Rao Hydari who wore a classic ivory saree with a bandh gala jacket and B-town's new face, Ali Afzal from the fame Bobby Jasoos who looked dapper in a pink and beige ensemble.

The highlight and the forerunner of the collection was the classic fluid Dhoti. The tailored classical Rathore Bandhgala and the Bandhgala Achcan were paired as a compliment to the flowing Dhoti in alchemy of silhouettes and combinations.

Raghavendra Rathore pioneers in menswear and never hesitates on the saturation level of his collection’s color palette. It was a delight to see well groomed men walk the ramp in shades of popping pink, sunny orange, bright purples, navy blues, dark maroons, black, beige and gold.

The women of the show too looked fabulous in female versioned sherwani, bandh gala jackets, achkans and jodhpuri pants which gave an ‘Indian’ androgynous look. The pairing of organza asymmetric skirts and lehengas with Rathore jackets reinvented the look of the modern day bride.

Rathore's designs always have an old world charm of Rajasthan and royalty yet the collection was a reflection of the future of Groom and bride’s wear, how people will dress when they travel across the globe for a wedding.

Hi Everyone,

THE SIXTH EDITION OF BMW INDIA BRIDAL FASHION WEEK IN ASSOCIATION WITH AZVA 2014 – DAY 2 HAS A GREAT START with Ashima Leena's 'Jashn' collection

New Delhi : 8th August, 2014 : The sixth edition of BMW India Bridal Fashion Week 2014  in association with AZVA at DLF Emporio, New Delhi on day 2 had an amazing start with 'Jashn' by designers Ashima and Leena.

The collection depicted the story of a travelling caravan of royal indulgence. An oasis in the pale shadows, depicted through water-bodies with handpicked, floating flowers. Moorish mood tents draped in beautiful, simple muslins. Ornamental details found in lanterns, saddles, campaign furniture and delicate glass lamps. Drapes of perfume scented fabric supported with blithe bamboos, scallops bordering them going on for miles, just like the traveler himself.

The collection had playful colors dipped in varied palettes, discovering new combinations. There was an exuberant display of contemporary and cultural styles. Paying a tribute to the complexities of hand embroidery, the work of the rangrez and to the simplistic complication of love itself, Jashn was a delight to experience.

The stage was masterfully done with real sand that replicated the sand dunes of the far away Arabian desserts. Live music by Gaurav Raina of  Midivial Punditz, vocals by Kutle Khan who sang mystic sufi songs and Pandit Ajay Prasanna on the flute made the whole experience fabulous and God like. Super model and showstopper of the show, Ujjwala Rawat made a runway come back with a spectacular multi colored, full circled lehenga choli. She dazzled with her smile and poise.

The show was opened by Nonika Chaterjee in a pastel pink floral embroidered sharara outfit. The delicate floral embroidery and thread work on all garments added its feminine touch yet looked traditional in all dimensions. The multi colored stone work in jewel tones looked vibrant.

With top Indian designers showcasing their collections at the BMW India Bridal Fashion Week 2014, the event and the fabulous setting of DLF Emporio – India’s first and finest luxury destination – makes it one of the greatest shows in the country. Hi Everyone,

THE SIXTH EDITION OF BMW INDIA BRIDAL FASHION WEEK (BMW IBFW) 2014 DAY 1
Created quite an impression with designers Gauri and Nainika's exquisite bridal finery

The sixth edition of BMW India Bridal Fashion Week 2014 in association with AZVA at DLF Emporio, New Delhi on day 1 saw a mesmerizing collection from the debut designer-duo, Gauri and Nainika.

The stage was set and the arena was pitch dark as the show was about to begin. But through a faint beam of light one saw people apart from the models still stationed on the stage! Bewildered by the scenario, the lights soon fade out and a dramatic scene of a backstage set up, where models were getting ready and choreographers describing the line up, took everyone by surprise!

Models soon take charge of the ramp in dazzling pieces by the Karan sisters better known as Gauri&Nainika. Their love for Hollywood glamour was evident yet again! With fine tailoring, sharp cuts and stark silhouettes Gauri&Nainika’s bride was certainly off for her red carpet moment, walking down the aisle in minimalistic and contemporary gowns.

The styles were crafted in Neoprene (material used for making scuba diving suits). The versatility of the material gave the collection sharp cuts and clean lines yet added an element of movement and flow, giving them a fluid and sensual feel. Wide slits, asymmetric hemlines and their signature curve-hugging sheaths were consistent throughout the collection.

Where exaggerated vintage ruffles served as the only embellishment, varying in size and structure, the color palate consisted of three all time favourites– Black, White & Red, be it combinations of black & white with a dash of red or just solid colors. The gowns spilled red carpet glam all over the stage with A-line designers like RohitBal and Rohit Gandhi applaud on their most-liked pieces from G&N collection.

Gauri&Nainika  ended the show with ‘sheer’ genius! The final 4 pieces in solid blacks or white left everyone awestruck. A favourite look on model Sonalika Sahay in white sheer gown with a extensive train and panelled ruffles got everyone’s cameras clicking. G&N's modern bride was dressed in pristine white with a long veil and replaced the tiara with a dramatic headpiece. The pretty duo was given a standing ovation by many.

Hi Everyone,

Outfit/Accessories - Max Fashions

Are you a big fan of the quirky prints? Well who's not !

I keep surprising myself with how majorly I’m falling for eccentric prints lately. There’re so many adorable graphics, mini prints and floral prints all over the time.
They were all over the fall runways and have been on my lust list ever since! It all started with the adorable hearts at Burberry, funky little eyes at Kenzo and autumn-appropriate florals at Givenchy.

Now, I’m more ready than ever to incorporate them into my wardrobe. They also add details to your outfit to make it more exciting. Whether it’s on your top, your pants, blazer, jacket, cardigan shoes or accessory, wearing prints is a surefire way to liven up any look. By keeping the silhouettes and shapes simple, they are way easier to wear than you might expect.

What could be better than bundling up in a bold print? Max Fashions new Autumn Collection leaves you spoilt for choice when it comes to quirky prints. I styled my fav nerdy shirt for a formal look by pairing with a beautiful velvet floral print pencil skirt. I was pretty amazed at the combination myself and it really worked very well.

The Singleton of Glen Ord

The Singleton of Glen Ord is a story of taste, and of a modern day quest for the best tasting single malt whiskies, inspired by the search of the early whisky merchants seeking out the best casks of whisky. The Singleton is Scotland’s progressive malt - it looks to the future of whisky making – where TASTE is everything. It is the best it can be by calling on all the traditional skills of malt whisky making to create a PERFECTLY BALANCED whisky, RICH AND SMOOTH FLAVOUR that delivers a truly exceptional taste experience.

Distilled at Glen Ord distillery, founded in 1838 during the golden age of whisky making, it has long produced malt sought out by connoisseurs and blenders for the quality and consistency of their malt. It is a result of traditional craftsmanship passed down from man to man for over 150 years. The only distillery situated on the rich and fertile Black Isle, famed for the quality of its barley, and unusually malted on site.

The Singleton of Glen Ord uses natural ingredients, and slower than usual fermentation and distillation in order to guarantee a richness and smoothness of flavor. This distillery character is complimented by a perfectly balanced maturation in a combination of European sherry and American oak casks, to craft a great tasting, delicious, balanced and smooth Scotch Single Malt Whisky.

Hi Friends,

Today we had an amazing afternoon cookout with friends at
JW Marriott - Alba Italian Restaurant, Bangalore with chef Antonello Cancedda.
The theme was Tuscan and we were all ready for our favorite Italian cuisine.

Ambiance of Alba is amazing, you have option to have a romantic setup or casual dining.

It started with a casual talk and sharing some amazing insights into Italian culture and geography. Chef Antonello is resident chef with JW Marriott Chandigarh and was quite well versed with Indian culture too and had a wide smile while sharing his experiences in Punjab :)

Afternoon started with preparing desert Tiramisu’ tradizionale, since with chef's recommendation desert will take time to set.
Rohit as always got into his Chef cap and was all ready to work with chef to cook some amazing dishes.
Rohit was all involved from beating the eggs to completing prepration of Tiramisu.

Next for starters we prepared Red wine Pappardelle with pumpkin, leeks and green peppercorn, chef tought us how to prepare Red wine Pappardelle using all the fresh ingredients.

For main course we prepared Grilled chicken with Diavola (devil) sauce, the sauce was one of the best which we have tasted so far, Rohit was curious as always and got a lot of tips from chef.
Looking forward for his next Italiano dish ;)

Overall a great afternoon spent with friends cooking lovely Italian dishes.

Top Trends for Autumn Winter 2014

Hi Everyone,

Every season has its signature decade now-a-days and this time round it’s the 60s mod.
Fall is usually when we wear darker colors and for this season, designers seemed to draw inspiration from bolder, richer and more pigmented tones of pastel colors, usually seen in spring and summer. A dash of Sixties and a splash of Nineties makes a new-season cocktail.
Since, pastels are personal fav ... I could not be more happy !!

Who says we have to say goodbye to fun and colorful prints and patterns just because the weather is becoming more gloomy? The 60s are back with the A-line shapes of matchy-matchy mini skirts, blazers and dresses with colorful, intricate and big patterns. Pointed 60s flats and mini boxy handbags are also having a moment. It’s 60s with a modern twist.

What fashion trends are you most looking forward to this fall?

MASABA GUPTA | AMIT AGGARWAL | LAKMÉ FASHION WEEK WINTER/FESTIVE 2014

Hi Everyone,

SUSHMITA SEN AND SHILPA SHETTY DAZZLED DURING THE DHL SHOW BY MASABA GUPTA AND AMIT AGGARWAL DURING THE EXOTIC OPENING NIGHT AT LAKMÉ FASHION WEEK WINTER/FESTIVE 2014

Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2014 opened in great style with the spectacular dual shows presented by DHL featuring the collections of the very talented Masaba Gupta and avant garde designer Amit Aggarwal. Colours of DHL were cleverly brought into the collections by both the designers who revealed their latest line of garments to a very appreciative audience.

MASABA GUPTA – FOR THE FREE SPIRITED WOMAN

The name Masaba Gupta conjures up visions of collections that are feisty, free and fashionable. Star winner of the Gen Next designer show in 2009, Masaba’s rise up the fashion ladder has been phenomenal. Her collection “Wanderess” inspired by renowned poet Roman Payne’s character Saskia, had all the characteristic touches that the young designer lavishes on her garments.
Inspired by the Goan woman whose adventurous and free thinking nature has been iconic, Masaba brought these qualities along with a hint of delicate touches for her line. Going for the vintage 1960’s look, the colour palette burst onto the ramp with lavish use of yellow and neon hues and created that splash of Goan flavour. Masaba’s fabric choice was scuba, satin, jersey and crepe for the trio of prints.

Touches of Goa appeared in the form of geometric leaves and flowers print for loose beach covers over white bikini. Saris with the characteristic Masaba prints in white, brown, black and yellow were teamed with long sleeved black/white leaf print blouse. Flared minis in beige, slinky gowns with multi prints, long sleeved, thigh length jacket with flared pants and cut-out sari gown, brought the mood of the fun times of the 1960s. Trapeze printed top with bell sleeves, attached dupattas for skirts, bell bottom style shararas, long sleeved tail-coat cholis with printed saris and drop waist will-power maxi added to the options that Masaba offered.
For a show stopping entry, it had to be Shilpa Shetty in a slinky black printed cut-out gown with an attached dupatta drape – just the right addition for a beach time soirée
When it comes to garments that leave a lasting impression on the audience, Masaba Gupta’s “Wanderess” collection will once again create waves in fashion circles.

AMIT AGGARWAL – FASHION’S ULTRA GLAM DESIGNER

Amit Aggarwal’s debut show at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2013 was the most widely praised event last season. His exclusive futuristic gowns and experiments with the 21st century look for the sari and choli drew applause from fashion lovers.

His collection presented by DHL had a marked tribal influence but with his exclusive design elements woven into the creations. Amazing weaving techniques were combined cleverly with striped tattoos. Using inspirations from menswear, Amit transferred them onto couture ensembles and innovatively married the distinct touches of androgyny with glamorous femininity.
Black was the favoured colour for the seductive line of form fitting formal wear with the shimmer of strips adding to the subtle glitter. But deep tones of red, navy, jade, silver, bronze and rust added to the drama of the collection. Washed matte silk, crepe de chine, jersey and Duchess Satin were softened with tulle to give a feminine edge to the line.

The garments revolved around a dark romantic theme as the silhouettes clung to the curves of the models. Hints of masculine lapels appeared on the rust black moulded gowns.
Opening the show with a long sleeved plunge neck black gown, the designer followed it with a variety of jackets with fish tails, moulded and pleated sari gowns and an emphasis on draped wide balloon sleeves for the exotic creations. Pleats played an important role, while a clever play of sheer and opaque metallic shimmer gave the creations a sexy seductive feel. Lattice work, laser cutting for wide peplums and intricately crafted flared skirts were a breathtaking part of the show.
The veiled, tasselled mysterious entries in all black, red and deep blue added to the drama and intrigue of the collection, which Amit brought in at regular intervals.

His showstopper was the very regal, gorgeous, Sushmita Sen, Miss Universe 1994 who was a grand end to the show as she glided in a black, striped, fitted, draped gown.Adding further highlights to the collection was the specially crafted jewellery. Giant intricately crafted ear flaps and striped hair pieces perched at the back of the models’ heads complemented the garments in an innovative manner.
When women want to make a sensational entrance and are daring and bold to carry off strong crafted ensembles, Amit Aggarwal’s creations will have the perfect impact on the gathering.
